A Message From our Principal - November
Posted 11/5/18

November 2018

Dear Curtis Family,

The Bossier City Firemen will visit us on Friday, November 2, to present a fire prevention and fire safety program for our students. They always remind us to test our smoke detectors and change batteries with the ending of daylight savings time, November 4.

Our Tiger College Teams are up and running, and we started things off with a pep rally that had all of us excited! Curtis the Tiger showed up, cheerleaders revved up the crowd, and students and teachers competed in football throwing contests. Students received a personalized letter of acceptance from a specific college, signed by their mentor teacher.  Each month Tiger College Teams will meet to discuss character education. Our next Tiger Team meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 30, and students may wear a shirt in their college colors along with their “head band” strip that each student received on the day of the pep rally.

Fifth graders will begin travelling to Barksdale Air Force Base this month for STARBASE.  This program extends learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through the inquiry-based curriculum. Students will experience "hands-on, mind-on" experiential activities.  Students engineer and design space stations, all-terrain vehicles, and submersibles.  Math is embedded throughout the curriculum and students use metric measurement, estimation, calculation, geometry and data analysis to solve questions.  Students work together to explore, explain, and discover new ideas!

A reminder that schools close on Tuesday, November 6, for federal elections.

We are so thankful for our students, parents, teachers, and community that we share! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Tiger proud,

Mrs. Bird, Principal
